Martin Walter Meyer

Martin Walter Meyer, age 83, of Truman, passed away peacefully in his home on Sunday, January 2, 2022. Memorial services will be held on Friday, January 7, 2022 at 11am at Zaharia Family Funeral Home in Truman. A time for visitation will be held from 5-7pm on Thursday at the Zaharia Family Funeral Home and one hour prior to the service on Friday. Burial will take place at Ridgelawn Cemetery in Truman.  

Martin was born on February 28, 1938 in Richardson Township, Morrison County, Minnesota to Walter and Mary (Tschida) Meyer. He was confirmed at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Madelia. He attended Truman High School before enlisting in the United States Navy on August 8, 1956. He served until August 5, 1960. On April 3, 1966, Martin married Dorothy Ann Bushman at American Lutheran Church in Sioux Falls, SD.

Martin worked as a car dealer, owned several restaurants and pizza businesses, and worked for 23 years as a security guard for Chrysler Corporation in Belvidere, IL. After his retirement, he went into the business of home rentals and worked as a landlord in Truman for the rest of his life. Martin enjoyed fishing, mowing law, drinking coffee, going on motorcycle rides, building dune buggies, putzing and tinkering in his shop, fixing all types of things. He also enjoyed his family dearly, and his great-grandchildren held a soft spot in his heart.

He is survived by his daughter, June Meyer Logan of Truman; grandchildren, Ann (Justin Breitbarth) Logan and Trevor (Haley Smid) Logan of Truman; great-grandchildren, Laela, Atreyu, Jace, and Sawyer Breitbarth and Declan and Kinzlee Logan; two children, Phyllis Knight and Tony (Cindy) Kelly; 6 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren in Illinois; sisters, Bernice (Ron) Hughes and Bonnie (Darrel) Wannarka; and brother, Reuben (Cathy) Meyer; and sister-in-law, Bev Meyer.

He is preceded in death by his wife, Dorothy Ann; son, Michael James Kelly; paternal and maternal grandparents; parents; sister, Marlene Meyer; and brother, Donald Meyer.
