Delores C. Splinter

March 25, 1924 — October 30, 2018

Delores C. Splinter, age 94, of Fairmont, formerly of Lewisville and Truman, died on October 30, 2018 at Lakeview Methodist Healthcare Center in Fairmont surrounded by her family. Visitation will be Friday November 2, 2018 from 5-7 PM at Zaharia Family Funeral Home in Truman.  Funeral Service will be Saturday, November 3, 2018 at 10 AM at Zion Lutheran Church in Lewisville with Pastor John Bennett officiating. Additional visitation one hour prior to the service. Interment will follow at Riverside Cemetery in Madelia.

Delores was born on March 25, 1924 in St. James to Olga Martha (Boeck) Beck and Albert Adolph Wilheim Becker. She is the second youngest of 13 children. Delores was married to Clarence Splinter on February 4, 1946.  To this union three children were born. During her working years, she focused her attention to tending to the farm and the house; serving her community as a seamstress. She also enjoyed quilting and making banners for the alter guild at church and doing other sewing projects. She was always mending something.  Cooking, baking and music played a big role in her life. Delores was a member of the Kitchen band, as she was gifted with playing the Harmonica. She was also a proud member of Lewisville Zion Lutheran Church.

Delores and Clarence moved from the farm into Truman in 1996, giving Delores the slower paced life off the farm. This is where she became more social.  Playing card games, like 500, becoming a member of the Red Hat Society, and hosting several gatherings at her home. Delores was a devoted wife and mother, but she cherished the title of Grandma and Great-Grandma most.  She loved everything the little ones did.

When we sum up one’s life in an obituary, we tend to think of all the good and the highlights. When asked what Delores didn’t like, the unanimous response was “there wasn’t much… Except for Fall.  That’s when everything dies.” How timely, that she died in the fall.  The legacy that Delores leaves to those she loves is that of her strong faith. Her faith could move mountains and she displayed that very faith everyday. She will be remembered for being soft-hearted, kind to all and always being happy.

Delores is survived by her three children, Cleo (Donald) Austin of Tucson, AZ, Dale Splinter, of Fairmont and Amy (Brad) Haynes of Madelia; grandchildren, Katie Leinert, Dawn (Michael) Lopau, Dustin (Natalie) Splinter, Brandon (Denver Hertling) Splinter, Emily (Carter) Shumski, Nathan (Emily Green) Haynes, Nicholas Haynes and Sarah Haynes; great grandchildren, Courtney Lopau, Kelly Lopau, Brittney Lopau, Addison Splinter, Tyler Splinter and Ivy Brandts; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband Clarence (April 15, 2004) and all of her 12 siblings and their spouses.
