Willis Mohwinkel

Willis G. Mohwinkel, age 88, a lifetime Truman area resident, passed away peacefully Sunday August 16^th at Heartland Senior Living. Services for Willis will be on Monday August 24 at 10:30 at St. John’s Lutheran Church- Antrim with Rev. Matthew Rusert officiating. Visitation will be Sunday August 23 from 4-6PM at Zaharia Family Funeral Home in Truman and again one hour before service time. Burial will be at Antrim Church Cemetery.

Willis G. Mohwinkel, was born to Gerhard and Margaret (Claeys) Mohwinkel on February 18, 1932 at Madelia Hospital. He was baptized on March 10, 1932 and confirmed on April 14, 1946 at St. John’s Lutheran Church of Antrim where he was a lifelong member.

Willis attended Truman Public School, District 18 and following his schooling he worked for several farmers in the area. On January 3, 1954 he married Lila Wiederhoeft. They farmed with Willis’ father until his retirement then Willis and Lila ran the farm until Willis’ retirement. They were blessed with 4 children, Gary, Jerry, Larry, Sherry. He enjoyed deer hunting every fall, playing cards with friends and especially spending time with his family.

Willis lived on the farm his entire life until his move into Heartland Senior Living in Truman in December of 2017.

Those left to cherish his memory are his wife of 66 years, Lila, children; Gary (Marlene), Jerry (Beckie) both of Truman, Larry (Amy), of St. James and Sherry Mohwinkel of Truman, 15 grandchildren, 30 greatgrandchildren and 1 great-great grandchild as well as several other relatives and friends.

He is preceded in death by his parents; parents-in-law Julius and Meta Wiederhoeft and brothers-in-law Lyle and Lloyd Wiederhoeft.
