Truman

Wilbert Oberdieck, beloved father, dedicated farmer, peacefully passed away on May 19, 2025, at the age of 99.

Born on February 5, 1926, in Madelia, Minnesota, to Carl and Emma (Zenk), Wilbert's journey through life was marked by hard work, unwavering faith, and deep connections to those around him. Raised on his family farm, Wilbert attended Antrim School until the eighth grade, after which he took the reins of the family farm, starting with a team of horses. Through the decades, he witnessed the incredible transformation of agriculture, culminating in the operation of a 400 HP tractor—an embodiment of the progress he cherished throughout his life. Farming was not just his vocation; it was a part of his identity. Wilbert remained deeply curious about the crops and cattle, a passion he carried into his final days.

A man of profound faith, Wilbert was baptized and confirmed at St. John's Lutheran Church, where he became a lifelong member. His commitment to the church was evident through his active involvement in committees and offices, and he remained a steadfast supporter of Lutheran education, particularly Martin Luther School and other institutions in the area. His faith was his foundation, guiding him through the seasons of life.

Wilbert cherished the simplicity of community, enjoying coffee at the Lewisville coffee shop and engaging with friends and new acquaintances alike. He lived on his family farm from birth until 2020, a testament to his enduring roots and the love he held for this land.

Wilbert is survived by his children; Joel (Cheryl) of Truman, Brent (Jennie) of Fairmont, and Amy (Jay) Gustafson of Faribault, grandchildren; Aaron Oberdieck, Brady (Emily) Oberdieck, Kristi (Jordan) Gatewood, Evan (Ashlee) Oberdieck, Matthew (Kameron) Gustafson, Kayla Gustafson Anthony (Kelsey) Gustafson, and great-grandchildren; Riley, Rylan, Kamry, Payton, Everson, Asher, Brynn, Kenna and another on the way, sister Lyla Bremer, daughter-in-law Pat Oberdieck as well as many nieces, nephews and extended family.
