Wally Zoellmer, of Truman, formerly of Lewisville, passed away on February 25, 2020 at Oaklawn Care and Rehab in Mankato. He was 83.
Visitation will be Sunday, March 1, 2020 at Zaharia Family Funeral Home in Truman from 4-6 PM. Memorial Service will be on Monday March 2, 2020 at St. Pauls Lutheran Church in Truman at 1030 AM with Rev. David Fretham officiating. Additional Visitation one hour prior. Waldon Luverne Zoellmer was born on January 4, 1937 in Madelia to Henry and Clara (Rosen) Zoellmer. He was one of 5 children. He was baptized and confirmed at Trinity Lutheran Church Fieldon. He attended school in Truman. He later joined the US Navy with Boot camp in Illinois, was a firefighter in Norman OK and a Jet Mechanic in Okinawa, Japan. Upon his return he married Marcia Tataman. Wally was a machinist and worked for several places in Fairmont. Including Railway Motors & Greenlee Textron. He was detailed when he needed to be. He officially retired in 1999. This left him free to travel and camp, taking the 5th wheel and seeing the country was something he loved. June 2, 1979, he married Bonny Leonard.
Wally raised and trained his own Arabian horses. He had a horse and carriage and often was in parades and competed in shows. He was a member of the Saddle Club for over 40 years. He was also an avid polka dancer and attended many dances in The New Ulm area as well. Wally was a member of The American Legion and VFW and St. Pauls Lutheran Church in Truman.
Survived by his wife of 40 years, Bonny Zoellmer of Truman; step-children, Cheryl Kremer of Vallejo, CA and Louis Hinton of Truman; step-daughter-in-law, Melanie Hansen of Rochester; nieces and nephews, other relatives and friends.
Wally is preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Marcia; sister, Marilyn Mosel; brothers Armond, Delbert and Jerry Zoellmer; step-sons, Bob Hinton and David Rice.
