Valeen Opal Meyer

Valeen Meyer, of Truman, passed away on Sunday, May 24, 2020 at Heartland Senior Living at the age of 102.  Due to the COVID-19 guidelines and restrictions, a graveside service will be held at 1 PM, Thursday, May 28, 2020 at St. Paul’s Lutheran Cemetery in Truman with Rev. Timothy Chase officiating. The service will be available through a live stream on the funeral home website. Those attending in person, we ask that you please observe social distancing guidelines. Valeen Opal Clow was born December 17, 1917 in Antrim Township at the family farm to Lawrence and Doris (Bussman) Clow.  Valeen had two sisters, Lorraine and Ardyth. She was baptized in the Lutheran Church with her mother and sister.  She was confirmed June 22, 1932 at St. John’s Lutheran in Antrim Township.  Her bible verse was Mark 16:16 “He that believith is baptized and shall be saved.” Valeen attended District 18, Antrim Township country school.

On November 23, 1936 she married Arthur “Buster” Meyer at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, in Truman.  They lived on a farm near Truman for 25 years, where they raised two children, Janet and Duane.  Valeen and Buster were members of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Truman.  They moved to a farm in rural Winnebago and farmed there until the time of Art’s death on November 1, 1983 at the age of 69.  Valeen continued to live on the farm, where she loved to work outdoors in the field, running the tractors, also tending the garden. She enjoyed canning, sewing and baking.  Her homemade buns, cinnamon rolls and fried chicken were everyone’s favorite.  Her nieces, nephews, grandchildren and great grandchildren loved to visit and play on the farm. Valeen loved to spoil them with her love and yummy treats. 

Valeen and Buster spent several winters in Arizona and loved the warm sun.  Valeen was blessed to be a resident of several area senior living facilities.  Ingelside, Lutz Wing and Heartland Senior Living in Truman until the time of her death.

Valeen is survived by her son, Duane (Lynda) Meyer of Winnebago; grandchildren, Sherry (Dana) Borchardt of Grand Rapids, Doreen Wilkowske of Farmington, Jason (Donna) Meyer of Yale, IA, Angela (Jared) Fischer of Truman and Travis (Suzy) Meyer of Spring Hill, TN; 11 great-grandchildren, Autumn, Cayden and Jakob Fischer, Colson, Jonah and Nora Meyer, De Anna (Eric) Steiger, Tanya (Ryan) Cunningham, Janine (Jen) Kellogg and Allie and Michael Wilkowske; 6 great-great-grandchildren, Frederick, Otto, Henry, Clara, Sawyer and Jasper; several nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Valeen is preceded in death by her parents, Lawrence and Doris, husband Art “Buster” Meyer, daughter Janet Page, grandson-in-law Rick Wilkowske, two sisters Lorraine (Bill Wiederhoeft, Dorwin Mohwinkel) and Ardyth (Jack) Carpenter, sister-in-law Edna (Ted) Brummond, parents-in-law Louis and Pauline Meyer, 3 brothers-in-law Martin (Helen) Meyer, Hans (Eleanora) Meyer and Clarence (Jean) Meyer.

Memorials may be directed to St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Truman or Martin Luther High School.
