Steven Richard Wilkening, age 79 of Truman, passed away peacefully on April 24, 2023 at his residence just outside of Truman. Graveside services will be held at Ridgelawn Memorial Park on June 5th at 1:00pm.
Steven was born on December 16, 1943 in Fairmont, to Richard and Vera (Albrect) Wilkening. He attended and graduated from Truman High School in 1961. After graduating, Steve pursued his love for flowers and decorating. He worked several jobs in the floral industry over the years, including Treehouse in Nisswa, Lundberg’s, Young’s, and Soderburg’s Floral, all located in the Twin Cities area. In 2001, Steve returned to the Truman area, residing on his century family farm.
Steve was always very creative, and his floral arrangements were one of a kind. He loved to make things beautiful, and this showed in his floral arrangements, as well as his décor and care around his home, and his beautiful flower gardens. Steve had a huge heart, a kind soul, and was accepting of everyone. He cared deeply for his cousins and his family, always sending cards for every occasion. Steve was a great uncle and friend. He was described by his cousin, Trent, as the “best cousin he ever had.”
Steve is survived by his only sister, Myrna Burk of Burnsville; nephew, Steven (Tara) Burk of Maplewood; niece, Kate (Patrick) McMullen of Highland Park; great niece and nephew, Ann and Sean McMullen; and many more family and friends.
He was preceded in death by his father, Richard Wilkening; mother, Vera (Raymond) Worden; and brother in-law, Charles Burk.
