Orville Joseph White was born January 20, 1938 to his parents Martin and Josephine (Jones) White on the Pine Ridge Indian Reservation in Pine Ridge SD. He was a member of the Oglala Lakota Tribe. He was raised on the reservation, attended the Red Cloud Boarding School, and moved to the Truman area in his early 30’s to find work.  He met and soon married Carol Breitbarth in July of 1969. To this union two children were born, Tiffany and Kai. Orville worked for Bosshart Construction and was a general laborer until 1972 when he was injured and was rendered unable to work.  In the coming years he enjoyed his children and their activities of Basketball and little league, coaching at times. He was a very detailed man and he found that having a clean car told a lot about a man. He took up macrame, installing car upholstery and refinishing furniture in the family garage. His grandson’s activities are cherished events that brought joy to his later years. He was a member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Truman. The neighborhood will miss his friendly wave from his driveway bench.

Orville is survived by his wife of 51 years, Carol White; daughter Tiffany Taylor; son Kai White; grandsons Tanner and Tristan Taylor all of Truman; half -sister Verene Lafferty of SD; special niece Dawn Janis of Rockyford, SD; sister-in-law Geneva Huges of Grants Pass OR; many other relatives and friends.

In addition to his parents, Orville is preceded in death by siblings Martin, Dennis, Doris, Loretta, Louise, Marie and Carole.
