Mildred Irene Spidahl was born November 11, 1930 in Brinsmade, North Dakota, one of eventually 13 children born to Melrin and Inga (Bjerke) Spidahl. She grew up learning the value of hard work, starting many jobs at a young age. Cleaning, housekeeping, waitressing, was a clerk at department stores and many other various jobs. She moved to Minnesota and the hard-working Millie could not be stopped. She married Sylvester Lang on November 22, 1948 at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Cando ND. Their marriage was blessed with 9 children. Sylvester and Millie were members of several churches in their 17 moves across the Midwest, even charter members of a few including St. Katherine's Catholic Church in Truman. After it's closing, she moved her membership to St. John Vianney, in Fairmont.
Millie was active in the community, AA, Alanon, church groups, teaching catechism, a den mother for Boy Scouts and the Lewisville American Legion Auxiliary. Mille retired from working life, ending on a high note, as the activity director at the Lutheran Retirement Home in Truman. She was fulfilled leading a life of service. Through all the adversity she faced and overcame, her faith grew exponentially. She was the physical embodiment of "One day at a time" and lived the Serenity Prayer daily- God, grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change, the courage to change the things I can and the wisdom to know the difference. In their aid to others, she and Sylvester, often found themselves in the right place at the right time for many people. Millie will be remembered for many things. Among them are her total faith in The Lord, her smile, her patriotism and never forgetting a name or a connection once she met you.
Millie is survived by 8 of her children, Alan (Pat) Lang of Sleepy Eye, Claudia Schaaf of St. Paul, Cheryl Culbertson of Truman, James (Ruth) Lang of Lewiston, Steve (Tracie) Lang of Armstrong, IA, Gerald (Amy) Lang of Truman, Michelle Lang (Fiancé Eron Andrews) of Kingsley, IA and Michael (Melody) Lang of Lewiston; daughter-in-law, Marianne Lang of Truman; 42 grandchildren (of which 12 are foreign exchange students she loved as grandchildren); 50 great grandchildren; 9 great great grandchildren; brothers, Donald (Bonnie) Spidahl and Merlin (Jane) Spidahl; sisters, Marlys Decoteau, Eileen (Howard) Abel, Alice (Donald) Evenhus, Berdelle (Sylvester) Rathman and Donna (Dennis) Wolle; many many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
