Helmuth Fedder, Jr. passed away Sunday, October 6th, 2019, in Mankato, surrounded by family. Funeral service will be at 11 AM on Friday, October 11th at Trinity Lutheran Church in Truman, Minnesota, with Reverend Krista Strum officiating. Visitation will be Thursday, October 10th from 5-7 PM at Zaharia Family Funeral Home in Truman and continue one hour prior to the service at the church. Burial will be at Ridgelawn Cemetery following the funeral service.
Helmuth was born December 22nd, 1932, in Shelby Township near Amboy, Minnesota, to Helmuth and Margaret (Wendt) Fedder. He attended country school in Shelby Township and later joined the United States Army. He served 16 months in the Korean War and was honorably discharged in 1954.
On June 20th, 1959, Helmuth married Doris Weilage in New Ulm, Minnesota. They made their home in Truman where he worked for many years for Bosshart Construction. He also worked for Greg Young Masonry and Tony Downs Foods, retiring in 1998. In his free time, Helmuth had many hobbies and always kept busy. He loved playing cards, gardening, woodworking, and feeding the birds and squirrels. He had an incredible sense of humor and would often rattle off nonsensical songs or speak in his own goofy language. His smile was infectious, and his laugh was contagious.
Helmuth is survived by his loving wife, Doris; six children, John Fedder, Deb (Brad) Nickerson, Marianne (Danny) Lang, all of Truman. Kathy (Mark) Johnson of St. James, Dawn (Dan) Schwan of Savage, Sandy Fedder (Cory Johnson) of Kenyon; one sister, Waneda Martin of Wells; one brother-in-law, Ronald (Ruth) Weilage of Hopkins; sister-in-law Marcella Fedder of Owatonna; eight grandchildren, Cody Fedder of Ormsby, Kylee (Jordan) Garbers of Welcome, Nicole (Kyle) Flohrs of Fairmont, Amber Nickerson of Truman, Jesse Lang of Truman, Brittany Lang (Ryan Rivers) of Fairmont, Caleb (Heather) Johnson of Maple Plain, Danielle Schwan of Savage; and four great-grandchildren, Aria Fedder, Finlie Garbers, Eve Garbers, and Ivy Garbers.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Helmuth and Margaret; five brothers, Lyle, Ervin, Eldon, Darrel, and Melvin; five sisters, Miranda, Gladys, Delilah, Eleanore, and Leona; one grandchild, Dustin Fedder; and many other family members.
