Harold James Reed

January 27, 1936 — July 25, 2022

Harold James Reed, age 86, passed away on Monday, July 25, 2022.

Harold was born on January 27, 1936, near Glenwood, Minnesota, the eldest son of Harold W. and Mildred (Parrish) Reed. He was baptized and confirmed at Glenwood Lutheran Church. Harold graduated from Glenwood High School in 1955. During his high school years, he worked for area farmers as well as repaired several junk cars for his own transportation. Following high school Harold honorably served in the US Armed Forces. In 1960, he moved to the Mapleton area and later to Le Sueur, Minnesota. He met the love of his life, Leona Bodermann, when she skated into his heart at the roller rink. On June 23, 1963, he and Leona were married at St. Peter Lutheran Church in Elma, Iowa. Harold and Leona set down roots and raised their family in Truman, Minnesota. He worked for the John Deere Division of Truman Farmers Elevator for 36 years, after which he worked for Ritter Agri Sales of Trimont. Harold preferred hard work to sitting still. With retirement came the hobby of repairing clocks and joining alongside his family in their adventures.

Throughout his life he enjoyed family activities and always encouraged everyone to do their best. No matter the distance, he was our biggest cheerleader and made every effort to be present for the events in each child’s and grandchild’s life. He was our jokester, Pizza Ranch enthusiast, ice cream lover, world class knitter, mister fix-it, and our tough as nails, yet soft-hearted, superman.

Left with loving memories and a reunion on the Last Day are his wife of 59 years, Leona, of Truman; daughter, Myrna (Eric) Meunier of Mankato, MN; son, Michael (Lori) Reed of Rollingstone, MN; grandchildren, Hunter, Gunner and Tanner Reed; Lexis and Jessica Meunier; and sisters-in-law Darlene Bodermann, Irma Jensen, and Mary Reed.

Along with his parents Harold and Mildred Reed, he was preceded in death by his brothers Ronald Reed and Gerald Reed; father- and mother-in-law Otto and Lenora Bodermann; brothers-in-law John Bodermann, Dale Bodermann, Arnold Rabenberg, and Robert Jensen; sisters-in-law Mary Ann Bodermann, Marie Rabenberg, and Cheryl Reed.

A memorial service will be held at 11:00 AM on Monday, August 1, 2022, at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Truman, Minnesota with Reverend Timothy A. Chase officiating. Visitation will be held one hour before the service. Burial will be at St. Paul’s Lutheran Cemetery, Truman.
