Gregory Kent Urevig, 69 years old, passed away peacefully at his home in rural Madelia on Friday, August 5, 2022. Greg’s remains will be cremated (per his wishes) and there will be a private family service at his farm. There will be a Celebration of Life on Saturday August 13, 2022, honoring Greg at the D Bar in Vernon Center from 3PM to 7PM. D Bar is located at North Street West, Vernon Center, MN 56090.
Greg was born to Edgar and Evelyn Urevig on February 6, 1953, at the Madelia Community Hospital. He was baptized at the Rosendale Lutheran Church in rural Madelia and confirmed at Trinity Lutheran Church in Truman. Greg grew up in Lewisville and graduated from Truman High School, he was a WCCO All State Basketball player. He graduated from Iowa State University in 1980 with a degree in Farm Business Management.
He married Sarah Robertson on December 24, 1980, at the Little Brown Church in Nashua, IA. They later divorced in 2005.
Greg farmed for a number of years in Watonwan County with his brother Tom. Prior to obtaining employment at the Community Bank in Vernon Center and Amboy. After 25 years, Greg retired in 2020 where he held the position of Vice President.
Greg loved music, attended many concerts and he enjoyed traveling with his lifelong friends Don and wife Jane, Gary and his wife Janice, and Mark and his wife Jeanie. The last several years he enjoyed the company of still doing all these things with his life partner Janet Boeck.
Greg is survived by many loved ones including his son, Troy and wife Shelly Warling and his granddaughter, BeBe of Minneapolis. He is also survived by his brothers Thomas and his wife Katherine Urevig of Madelia and Douglas Urevig of Galveston, TX. Along with his nephews, Scott Urevig of Lewisville and his children, Dylan and wife Ashley of Lewisville, and Gunnar and wife Rebekah Urevig of Aurora, CO. His nephew Chad and his wife Tonya Urevig of St. James and his niece Britta (Urevig) and her husband Matthew Romsdahl and their children Eva, Alivia, Ellie, and Jaxon of St. James. Greg is also survived by his life partner Janet Boeck.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Edgar Urevig (2009) and Evelyn Urevig (2012).
Greg’s sense of humor, his big friendly smile and generous heart was infectious and left an imprint on everyone that knew him. These are many wonderful memories to comfort his family and friends.
