Delilah "Dee" Firchau

March 2, 1950 — February 24, 2021

Delilah “Dee” Firchau, age 70 of Lewisville, passed away peacefully at home on Wednesday, February 24, 2021. Funeral services will be held at 11am on Monday, March 1, 2021 at St. John’s Lutheran Church, Willow Creek with Rev. John Bennett officiating. A time for visitation will be held at Zaharia Family funeral home on Sunday, February 28 from 4-6pm and one hour prior to the service at church. Burial will take place at Zion Lutheran Cemetery in Lewisville.

Delilah Jean was born on March 2, 1950 in rural Lewisville, the daughter of Alfred and Margaret (Tiedeken) Karau. Dee was baptized and confirmed at Zion Lutheran Church in Lewisville. She also married Dennis Firchau there on July 27th, 1968. The couple had two children, Thad and Kelly.

Dee was a hard worker from a young age, walking beans as a child and then at the age of 9 she began peeling potatoes for Bachmann’s Café. She also helped her brother Roger deliver newspapers. Dee continued to work at the café, then she worked at the liquor store, and then for 26 years was the manager of the Legion Club. Dee also managed the Americana Café from March of 1998 until January of 2008.

Dee was a 49-year member of the Auxiliary Unit 561 in Lewisville. She was a past president and held other offices. She was also a 15-year member of the Lewisville Community Chest, a past president, and was serving as their secretary, and also a long-standing member of Lewisville Commercial Club. Dee helped organize several children’s holiday events and loved to help kids have a good time. For years, she and Thad enjoyed “elfing” people around Lewisville by secretly hanging a gift basket of goodies on their doors at Christmastime.

Dee enjoyed cooking and baking, and was known for her lemony cut-out sugar cookies, banana bread, deviled eggs, and potato salad. She used to love an ice-cold Miller High Life. Dee also loved helping others and was very caring.

She is survived by her husband, Dennis; daughter, Kelly (Gary) Karels of Lake Crystal; granddaughters, Ivy and Emma Karels; siblings, Gordon Karau of Chicago, IL, Roger Karau of Las Vegas, NV; Val Erickson of Lake Crystal; and Velma Albrent of Lewisville; and many more relatives and friends.

She is preceded in death by her son, Thad; parents, Alfred and Margaret Karau; and sisters, Beverly (infancy) and Deanna Tomford.
