Truman

Arthur Stough, age 86 passed away Tuesday January 16, 2024 at Mayo Hospital in Fairmont. A memorial service will be held at 2:30pm Saturday January 27 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Truman with Rev. Carol Mapa officiating. Visitation will be from 1-2:30pm at the church. Burial will be at Ridgelawn Cemetery at a later date.

Arthur “Art” Dale Stough was born January 31, 1937, in Petersburg, Minnesota to James and Ethel (Greenwood) Stough.  He grew up on a farm near Petersburg with his 3 siblings, attending high school in Jackson, graduating with the class of 1955.  Art met his wife, Norma Splinter in high school, they were married April 26, 1957.  Norma passed away in June of 2020.

Art and Norma lived in Sherburn, MN until 1963 when they relocated to Truman, MN.  They bought the house on highway 15 (and all its contents, which fueled his passion for collecting, refinishing and caning antiques).  In 1975, they built their own new home on Ciro Street with help from family and friends.  Art and Norma moved to Goldfinch Estates in March of 2020.

Art worked for Peoples Natural Gas for 43 years, retiring in 2000. He was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Truman, Lions Club, Truman Jaycees and Truman Fire Department.  Art enjoyed golfing (sporting a hole in one in 1987 at Rose Lake Golf Club), fishing, gardening, as well as keeping his vehicles and lawn in tip top shape.   He was also an avid sports fan - Twins, Timberwolves and golf tournaments were always on.  He rarely missed his grandsons’ sporting events, who were his pride and joy along with his 5 great granddaughters.

He was preceded in death by his parents James and Ethel (Greenwood) Stough, wife, Norma Stough. Son and daughter in law: Scott & Victoria (Bacon) Stough, along with several faithful Boston terriers.  Brothers:   Roger (Shirley) Stough, Clinton (Bill) Stough, sister: Shirley (Art) Matasovsky,   sisters and brothers in Law: Elaine Splinter, Margie (Marvin) Olson, Donald Ford, as well as other nieces and nephews.

Art will never be forgotten by Son: Tom (Barb) Stough of Redwood Falls, MN, their boys – Brady Stough (Addie & Lainey) of Redwood Falls; Beau (Victoria Streich) Stough (Iyla, Ramsi & Vivienne) of Alexandria; and Blaise Stough of Redwood Falls. Scott’s kids:  Vincent Stough of Minneapolis, Chandelle Hansen (Layla) of Hibbing, Sheyenne Hansen of Maple Grove.  Daughter: LeAnn (Jeff) Maloney of Lewisville, MN, their boys - Jordan Maloney (Kasey, Taelynn, Gage) of Truman; Austin Maloney of Truman; Jackson Maloney (Rachel Shumski) of St. James; and Mason Maloney of Mankato.  Godson:  Ross James Kline of San Francisco, CA as well as the entire Kline family of the St. James area.  Sisters in law: Joyce Stough of Webster City, IA; Darlene Stough of Spencer, IA; and Cindy Ford, of Farmington, MN, along with several nieces and nephews as well as great-nieces and nephews and many other relatives and close friends.

In Lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials to Trinity Lutheran Church, Truman Fire Relief Association, Goldfinch Estates or donor’s choice.
