Wilmer Borchardt

Wilmer Arno Borchardt was born September 19, 1928, son of Arno and Alma Borchardt, he attended school at St. John’s Lutheran School in Good Thunder, MN; Wilmer farmed with his family until joining the Army in 1951 and served in the Korean War. He married Cora Elsie Glaubitz of Willow Creek, MN on May 24, 1952. They lived in Minnesota, Iowa, Illinois and Wisconsin, farming most of their lives while raising their five children. In 1979, they moved to Durand, WI. After many years of working for the City of Durand, he settled into retirement until Cora’s passing in 1994. In December 2000, Wilmer married Mary Jane Scheihing. They enjoyed traveling and visiting friends between Wapello, IA and Mission, TX until until Mary Jane’s passing in 2011. Wilmer made friends easily, lived happily and independently, took occasional fishing and camping trips, loved family gatherings, was especially proud of all his 14 grandchildren and 15 great grandchildren and never missed sending birthday wishes. Wilmer passed away peacefully on Friday, July 7, 2017 in Texas at the Mission Nursing & Rehabilitation Center due to complications following a heart attack six weeks earlier. Wilmer is survived by children Donald (Mary) Borchardt of Pepin, WI; David (Penny) Borchardt of Amboy, MN; Lorna Borchardt of St. Paul, MN; Lester (Lori) Borchardt of Pepin, WI; and Bruce (Sue) Borcharvdt of Hillsboro, WI. Also survived by brother Ivan (Donna) of Good Thunder, MN and sister LaVone Anderson of Owatonna, MN. Preceded in death by parents Arno and Alma Borchardt, first wife, Cora, infant son Ronald, and second wife Mary Jane brother Marvin, sister-in-law Marilyn and brother-in-law Lyle Anderson.
