Lawrence William Zellmer, age 96, of Amboy, MN, passed away peacefully in Truman, MN. Funeral Services will be held at 10AM on Thursday, March 9, 2017 at St. John’s Lutheran Church Willow Creek with a visitation one hour prior at the church. Interment will take place immediately following the service at Lakeside Cemetery of Fairmont, MN. Online condolences may be left at www.zahariafamilyfuneral.com. Lawrence was born on April 21, 1920 in Pleasant Mound Township, Blue Earth County to Gustav and Alma (Ulrich) Zellmer. He received his education in rural and parochial schools in and around Willow Creek, rural Amboy. On April 7, 1942, Lawrence entered the U.S. Army. He served in bases all across the United States in Oregon, California, Florida, and Texas. He was then transferred overseas to Europe, where he served in Germany, France, and Belgium. After his discharge on March 6, 1946, he returned to the Amboy area and was active in farming with his father and brother. He married Ida Boehm on December 27, 1951 in Truman, MN. They farmed in rural Amboy before moving to Browerville, MN to a farm from 1957 to 1965. In 1965, they returned to farm in Amboy. Lawrence and Ida both retired from farming in 1982. Lawrence and Ida enjoyed their retirement and were active fisher folk and enjoyed tending to their garden together. Lawrence is preceded in death by his wife, Ida; parents; and bother.
