Gerhard Harold Boeck, age 99, of Amboy, passed away at the Mapleton Community Home on September 3, 2016. A Funeral Service will be held at 10:30AM on Thursday, September 8 at the St. Johns Lutheran Church-Willow Creek , rural Vernon Center, MN with Pastor John Bennett presiding. There will be a visitation one hour prior to the service. Interment will take place following the service at St. Johns Lutheran Church South Cemetery. Gerhard was born May 18, 1917 at home in Pleasant Mound Township, Blue Earth County, MN to Henry and Johanna Boeck “Wollschlager.” He was baptized May 27, 1917, and confirmed on May 29, 1931, by Pastor Cloether at St. Johns Lutheran Church-Willow Creek. Gerhard attended parochial school at St. Johns Lutheran Church-Willow Creek, through the 8th grade. He then helped run the farm with his mother. Gerhard continued to farm the home place until one of his brothers returned from service at which time he moved to work the Sam Busse farm. Later he moved to the Truman area and worked an uncles’ farm. Gerhard married Verna Wels on December 16, 1952, and in 1957, they moved to the Leonard Tabatt farm in Willow Creek. In 1965, the couple moved to the home farm place, which he purchased, and where he continued farming and milking Holstein cows until retiring into Amboy. Gerhard moved to Assisted Living at Parker Oaks in Winnebago, MN in 2000 and in 2006, he entered the skilled nursing facility at Parker Oaks. In January 2015, he moved into the Mapleton Community Home. Gerhard enjoyed many fishing trips up to northern Minnesota and purchased a lake home at rural Remer where he and Verna had many enjoyable vacations. He was a past member of the board of education at the Willow Creek School, enjoyed his grandchildren, visiting relatives, hunting, and playing cards. In his later years, he enjoyed having coffee at the gas station in Amboy with the “guys.” Gerhard was preceded in death by his wife, Verna in 1996, his parents and siblings. He is survived by son, Rodney (Janet) Boeck of Amboy, a daughter, Mavis (Dick) Royer of Winnebago, four grandchildren, two step-grandchildren and four step-great-grandchildren.
