Memorial services for Joyce Malherek, 95, Fairmont, MN will be held on Tuesday, October 27, 2015 at 11:00 am at First Congregational-United Church of Christ, Fairmont, MN. Inurnment will take place at Ridgelawn Memorial Park, Truman, MN. Joyce died on Sunday, October 11, 2015 at Lakeview Methodist Health Care Center, Fairmont, MN. Visitation will be held for one hour prior to the services in the church. Arrangements are entrusted to Zaharia Family Funeral & Cremation Service of Truman. Joyce E. Geer was born on March 31, 1920 in Rochester, MN to Allyn and Ellen (Chase) Geer. Joyce was baptized in Stewartville, MN. In 1934, Joyce moved with her family to Truman. She graduated from Truman High School. On November 22, 1941 Joyce was united in marriage to Donald Malherek in Truman. They moved to Oklahoma while Donald served in the US Army Air Corp. They moved back to Truman in 1945. Joyce worked for the US Postal Service from 1957 until her retirement in 1985. They spent their winters in Arizona. Joyce and Donald moved to Fairmont in November of 1996. Joyce is survived by one son, Dennis (Jean) Malherek, Lakeville, MN; one daughter, Vicki Thomsen and significant other, Bill Meyer, La Crescent, MN; four grandchildren, Jill Miller, James Thomsen, Robert Thomsen, Leanne Thomsen; 10 great grandchildren, Emily Thomsen, Joseph Thomsen, Vivienne Thomsen, Paige Thomsen, Andrew Thomsen, Nicholas Thomsen, Jacob Thomsen, Carlene Felten, Samuel Felten, Grace Olson; one brother, Lyle Geer, Surprise, AZ; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Donald, on April 16, 2015; one great grandson, Bryce Miller; one infant brother. Memorial contributions are preferred to First Congregational-United Church of Christ, Fairmont.
