Mildred LaFond

Memorial services for Mildred M. LaFond, 103, Fairmont, MN will be held on Saturday, February 28, 2015 at 2:00 pm at Zaharia Family Funeral & Cremation Service of Truman with Pastor Tony Fink officiating. Mildred passed away peacefully at Lakeview Methodist Health Care Center in Fairmont on Saturday, January 24, 2015 where she was a resident for fourteen years. Mildred Ebert was born on October 4, 1911 in Minneapolis, MN the daughter of George J. Ebart and Cora (Thomas) Ebert. She graduated from Mankato High School in 1929. She earned her teaching certificate and began her teaching career in SE Minnesota. Mildred had a degree in elementary education and a fifth year degree from Mankato State University. On December 31, 1938 she was united in marriage to Eugene LaFond at the Little Brown Church of the Vale in Nashua, IA. They lived in Kenosha, WI and moved to Marshfield, WI in 1951. She taught school in neighboring Spencer, WI in addition to private piano and voice lessons. Following her divorce in 1962, she held teaching positions in Rochester, MN and Ventura, IA before moving to Fairmont in 1968. She taught at Lincoln School in Fairmont for many years before her retirement. She was a member of the United Methodist Church in Fairmont, a past member of the Order of the Eastern Star and volunteered at Lakeview Methodist Health Care Center. Mildred is survived by one son, John (Janis) LaFond of LeSueur, MN; two granddaughters, Christine (Jason) Theis of Prior Lake, MN, Danielle (Andrew) Peterson of New Prague, MN; and three great grandchildren, Ella and Landon Theis and Hannah Peterson. She was preceded in death by her son, Eugene LaFond, Jr. in 1962 and her sister, Phyllis Hoffman.
