Pierce Dean Ricard was born on December 21, 1925 in Armstrong, IA to Augustus Hiram and Laura (Lund) Ricard. They moved to a family farm in Nashville Township. Dean attended 8 years of country school and later graduated from Truman High School. He farmed with his father in Nashville Township. On January 15, 1953 Dean was drafted into the US Army. He was honorably discharged on December 28, 1954. On March 25, 1956 Dean was united in marriage to Marie Fredericksen Lenox at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, Truman. In addition to farming, Dean did custom spraying and raised livestock. They farmed for 40 years until retiring to Truman in 1996. In October of 2013 Dean and Marie moved into Goldfinch Estates in Fairmont. Dean was a member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Truman and the Martin County VFW. Dean was a school crossing guard and served on the Nashville Cemetery Board. He loved to play cards, go fishing, auction sales, traveling, and was a hard worker. Dean died on Friday, January 16, 2015 at Sanford Jackson Medical Center, Jackson, MN.
Dean is survived by his wife of 58 years, Marie Ricard, Fairmont; one daughter, Gloria (Wayne) Lutz of West Palm Beach, FL; five sons, James (Carol) of Winnebago, Gary (Connie) of Fairmont, MN, Dennis (Kim) of Apache Junction, AZ, Earl (Julie) of Fairmont, Michael (Theresa) of Truman; 17 grandchildren; 34 great grandchildren; 11 great, great grandchildren; 3 sisters, Eulalie Ann Grunig (Bill) of Truman, MN, Delores Holz of Fairmont, MN, Roxy Brummond of Granada, MN and numerous nieces and nephews. Dean was preceded in death by his parents; one sister, Twila Anderson.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions are preferred to the St. Paul’s Lutheran Church Elevator Fund.
VISITATION: Thursday, January 22, 2015 from 4-7:00 pm at Zaharia Family Funeral & Cremation Service of Truman and one hour before the services in the church Friday
SERVICE: Friday, January 23, 2015 at 10:30 am at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, Truman, with Rev. Nathan Rusert officiating
