Merlyn Lee Schloemer was born in Hampton, IA on August 26, 1939 to Kenneth and Evelyn (Hansen) Schloemer. He was raised by his mother and step-father, Einer Jensen. Merlyn was baptized and confirmed at St. John's Lutheran Church in Hampton, IA. Merlyn worked at several spots in the United States as a tool and die machinist. In 1976, Merlyn was united in marriage to Katherine Lumley. To this marriage three children were born, Chad (Patty) Truax, Truman, Tonya (Chad) Fessler, Swaledale, IA and Terresa (Ricky) Davis, St. James, MN. There are three children from a previous marriage, Kenny Schloemer, California, Jenette Reisen, Florida, Denette Romano, Alaska. Merlyn and Katherine moved to Minnesota in 1992. He worked in many confinement barns, was the Mayor of Lewisville and most of all, he enjoyed farming with Richard and Tammy Schaefer. Merlyn enjoyed fishing, camping, woodworking, puzzles, traveling in his camper for 13 years, Louie Lamoure books and Nascar races. He loved his dogs, Coco and Sami. He was liked by everyone who met him. He came into this world with nothing and is leaving with 12 cents and a fishing pole. Merlyn died on Thursday, April 10, 2014 at the St. James Medical Center in St. James, MN. He was diagnosed with Lung Cancer in December.
Merlyn is survived by his wife, 6 children, one adopted daughter, Deb Collons, 17 grandchildren, 6 great grandchildren, several extended grandchildren, 1 brother, Larry (Jan) Jensen, Ankeny, IA, 1 sister, Linda Jensen, Grande Blanc, MI. He was preceded in death by his parents and step father, one grandson, uncles and his dog Candy.
