Walter Paul Sieg was born on July 11, 1916 on a farm northwest of Truman to Herman and Mathilda (Krenz) Sieg. He was a lifetime member of St. John's Lutheran Church-South Branch where he was baptized, confirmed and attended. Walter completed the 8th grade at St. John's and the local district school. On September 1, 1948 Walter was united in marriage to Nina Reckard. Nina died in 1996. They farmed northwest of Truman their entire lives. His farm was a Century farm built and farmed by his father. 94 years were spent on this farm. When his health declined, the St. James Good Samaritan Nursing Home stepped in and provided excellent care to Walt since 2011. He built airplanes and was a licensed pilot. Over the years he also owned planes and did stunts like wing walking. Walter was a charter member of the International Flying Farmers. He loved people and was always first to ask, "what's your name?. Walter was chosen King of the nursing home in 2012 and rode on their float in the St. James parade. Walter died on Tuesday, February 18, 2014 at the Pleasant View-Good Samaritan Center in St. James.
