Floyd Robert Tonne

Floyd Robert Tonne was born in Truman, MN on September 12, 1924 to Fredrick and Lucy (Engel) Tonne. At age one he moved with his family to the farm near Fairmont. He attended country school near Fairmont. Floyd joined the US Army. He served in the Philippines. After his honorable discharge, he returned to Fairmont where he worked for the Martin County Highway Department and farmed. Floyd was united in marriage to Ruth Abel on November 21, 1964 at St. John's-United Church of Christ in Fairmont. Ruth died on February 1, 2004. Floyd remained on the farm until his death. Floyd was a member of St. John's-United Church of Christ in Fairmont. Floyd was a lifetime member of the Martin County VFW Post 1222 and the Schwieger-Kahler American Legion Post 522. He was a member of the Martin County Conservation Club. Floyd enjoyed hunting, ice fishing, gardening, working on tractors and spending time with family and friends. He loved telling stories at deer camp and ice fishing as well as any social gatherings. Floyd was a was a very generous, caring man with a very gentle heart. Floyd died on Thursday, August 8, 2013 at Lutz Wing. Floyd is survived by one sister, Ruth Groover of Sterling, CO; one sister-in-law, Mavis Tonne of Fairmont, MN and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife; three sisters and two brothers.
