Walter Leroy Krumwiede was born on August 13, 1921 in rural Triumph, MN to Walter E. and Alice (Jeffries) Krumwiede. He was baptized and confirmed in Triumph, MN. Walter attended country school and graduated from Triumph High School. He started banking at Triumph State Bank in 1939 and continued until 1956. In May of 1943 Walter joined the US Navy and was discharged in 1945. He served on the USS Parrott and the USS Laub. On November 3, 1944 Walter was united in marriage to Marian Hairsine in Kasson, MN. They moved to Truman in 1956. Walter worked at People's State Bank in Truman, MN starting in 1956 and serviced at Executive Vice President from 1973 until retirement in 1986. Walter and Marian spent 18 years wintering in Mesa, AZ. Walter was a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Truman where he served on various church offices. He served as City Clerk of Triumph and on the Triumph Fire Department. He was president of the Truman Commercial Club, Kiwanis Club and was a member of the Truman Development Corp. Walter was a member of the American Legion since 1947. Walter died on Wednesday, May 29, 2013 at Truman Senior Living.
Walter is survived by his wife of 68 years, Marian of Truman, MN; one daughter, Karma Krumwiede, Rochester, MN; two sons, Warren Krumwiede and his wife Joyce of Mankato, MN, Daryl Krumwiede and his wife Jeanne of St. Charles, IL; five grandchildren; three great grandsons; two sisters, Shirley Hovick (Mert) of Armstrong, IA, Gaylene Grabinger (Dick) of Henderson, NV; one brother, Ken Krumwiede (Jane) of Davenport, IA. He was preceded in death by his parents; one son, Ronald; step mother, Ella; two brothers, Leland and Gerald.
