Elsie D. Shoen

Elsie Riggle was born on February 28, 1929 in Brewster, KS to Harold and Martha (Forbes) Riggle. They moved to Fairmont in 1937 and to Truman in 1941. Elsie attended school in Truman and graduated in 1947. Following her graduation she worked at the telephone company. On March 21, 1948 Elsie was united in marriage to Ronald Shoen in Truman. Elsie not only helped on the farm, she was active in the community and church. She was an adult leader in 4-H, member of the American Legion Auxiliary, Key Lady of the Lutheran Retirement Home, Farm Bureau women's committee, president and secretary of Women's Council and Bible School secretary/treasurer. Elsie enjoyed serving others, reading, traveling, playing with her children, and spending time with family and friends. Elsie died on Thursday, April 18, 2013 at Mayo Health Systems-Fairmont. Elsie is survived by her husband of 65 years, Ronald, Truman; three sons, Maurice (Kris) Shoen, Fairmont, Alan (Karen) Shoen, Truman, Don (Dawn) Shoen, Truman; two daughters, Gloria (Mike) Ryan, Fergus Falls, MN, Susan (Rod) Halvorsen, Fairmont; eleven grandchildren; fourteen great grandchildren; four brothers, Orville (Carol) Riggle, CA, Frank Riggle, KS, Harlan (Darlene) Riggle, IA, Howard (Alice) Riggle, MN and several nieces, nephews and extended family. Elsie was preceded in death by her parents, her sister, Alice and a step great granddaughter. Memorial contributions may be given to the donor's choice.
