Vernon Ernest Arthur Schultz

March 8, 1917 — November 29, 2012

Vernon Ernest Arthur Schultz was born on March 8, 1917 to Ernest and Marie (Wiederhoeft) Schultz. He was baptized and confirmed at Zion Lutheran Church in Lewisville. In 1936, Vernon joined the Civilian Conservation Corps and proudly served until 1940. He worked primarily at Flandreau State Park in New Ulm. Many structured built by the CCC boys can still be seen at the park today. On February 22, 1941 Vernon was united in marriage to Loretta Maus in Whittier, CA. In 1943, he was drafted into the US Army. During his military service, Vernon was trained as an airplane mechanic and eventually was put in charge of training crew chiefs for the P51 fighter planes. Vernon was very proud of his contributions during the war effort and became a charter member of the Lewisville American Legion Post 561. Vernon was a member of Zion Lutheran Church in Lewisville. Later in life, Vernon found a new passion in golf at age 68. Vernon died on Thursday, November 29, 2012 at Mayo Health Systems-Mankato. Vernon is survived by two daughters, Sharon Gribble of Roseville and Janet Marko of Apple Valley; four grandsons, Phillip, Andrew and William Gribble and Jeffry Marko; seven great grandchildren and one sister, Marvel Gens of Madelia. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife of 46 years, Loretta; one brother, Ewald Schultz; one sister, Valeria Hasselhop and long-time companion, Marilyn Hall. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions are preferred to Zion Lutheran Church in Lewisville.
