Dorothy Eleanor Riewe

Dorothy Eleanor Werdin was born on November 30, 1925 in Mankato, MN to Henry and Irene (Mueller) Werdin. She was baptized at home and attended Trinity Lutheran School for eight years. She was confirmed at Trinity Lutheran Church in Janesville, MN. Dorothy graduated from Janesville High School. She attended Concordia College in Seward, NE and achieved a teaching certificate. Dorothy taught school for 3 years at Posen Wood Lake Lutheran School, rural Wood Lake, MN. She taught school for two years at St. John's Lutheran School-Willow Creek and one year at Glencoe Lutheran School. Dorothy also served as principal at St. John's Lutheran School-Willow Creek. On July 6, 1952 Dorothy was united in marriage to Raymond Riewe at Trinity Lutheran Church in Janesville, MN. They lived on Raymond's home place in Willow Creek. Dorothy continued teaching at St. John's Lutheran School-Willow Creek. She retired from teaching in 1972. Raymond died in 2003. Dorothy was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church-Willow Creek and Dorcas Society and she was a 4-H leader. Dorothy enjoyed fishing, traveling, puzzles, reading, embroidery, playing cards and games and gardening. She loved spending time with her family and especially her grandchildren. Dorothy died on Thursday, May 19, 2011 at Parker Oaks Communities, Winnebago, MN. Dorothy is survived by one daughter, Brenda Riewe, Byron, MN; two sons, Keith Riewe and his wife, Chris of Lake Crystal, MN, Brian Riewe and his wife Cindi of Amboy, MN; six grandchildren, Nicole, Matthew, Tiffany, Lukas, Cory and Aaron; one great granddaughter, Anna; three sisters-in-law, Jean Winch of New Ulm, MN, LaRue Riewe of Spring Lake Park, MN, Bernice Werdin of Rochelle, ILL. Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; one brother, Theodore Werdin; and numerous brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law. Memorial contributions are preferred to Martin Luther High School or The Lutheran Hour Ministries.
