Gretchen Karen Putz was born on May 26, 1944 in Minnesota Lake, MN to Martin and Carmen (Jordahl) Putz. She was baptized at Manchester Lutheran Church, Manchester, MN and confirmed at St. John's Lutheran Church, Danville, MN. Gretchen attended school in Minnesota Lake, MN. She graduated from University of Minnesota-Morris with a BA in elementary education. Gretchen taught for four years in Winnebago, MN. On July 19, 1969 Gretchen was united in marriage to Robert Hartman. They made their home and farmed on the Hartman family farm in rural Winnebago. Robert died in April 1997. Gretchen continued to live on the family farm until the time of her death. Gretchen was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Truman where she taught Sunday school and was active in Lois Circle. Gretchen enjoyed gardening. Her passion was spending time with her family and especially her grandchildren. Gretchen died on Monday evening, November 15, 2010 at St. Mary's Hospital, Rochester, MN.
Gretchen is survived by one daughter, Raquel Harder (Troy) of Truman, MN; two sons, Andrey Hartman (Dawn), rural Winnebago, MN, Grant Hartman (Britta), Truman, MN; her mother, Carmen Johnson, Truman, MN; one sister Paulette Lotton (Larry), Mankato, MN; two brothers, Larry Putz (Geri), Brooten, MN, Howard Putz (Sue), St. Peter, MN; eight grandchildren, Tyler, Haley Marie, Hailey Ann, Kylee, Miah, Seth, Hanna and Chloe; and numerous aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert and her father, Martin.
