Walter Fred Kasten was born on September 3, 1914 in Waverly Township, Martin County, MN to Robert and Bertha (Wessel) Kasten. Walter was baptized and confirmed at the North Star Evangelical Church. He attended country school in Waverly Township. Walter farmed his entire life in Waverly Township. In 1942, Walter joined the US Army serving on the island of Guam. He received an honorable discharge in 1945. Walter was a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Truman and a member of Oles-Reader-Bosshart American Legion. Walter enjoyed putzing around the farm and in the garden. Walter died on Wednesday, August 11, 2010 at Truman Senior Living.
Walter is survived by an adopted daughter, a niece and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Edward and William; sisters, Ida Harder, Dorothy Redenius and Mabel Lueth.
