Harold Valentine Bock

Harold Valentine Bock was born on January 16, 1914 in Garland, Nebraska to Alex and Marie (Minor) Bock. He was baptized on February 1, 1914 in Garland, NE by Rev. Joeckel. He moved with his family to the Truman area in 1916. Harold was confirmed on April 1, 1928 at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Truman by Rev. Heineman. He attended St. Paul's Lutheran School and School Dist. 18. On February 28, 1940, Harold was united in marriage to Marguerite Rosaline Malmanger at St. John's Lutheran Church-South Branch by Rev. Rolf. They farmed in Antrim Township from 1940 until retiring in 1975. They moved into Truman in 1983. Harold was a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Truman and served as a trustee, served on the cemetery board and parochial school board and was a longtime choir member. Harold also served on the Truman Farmer's Elevator Board, the Antrim Township Board and the ASCS Board. Harold was gifted in music. He enjoyed singing, playing piano and accordion. He also enjoyed playing cards, socializing with friends at the coffee shop and time spent with family. Harold died on Saturday, January 10, 2009 at Truman Senior Living in Truman. Harold is survived by two sons, Arlen Bock and his wife, Bonnie of Truman, Thomas and his wife, Julie Bock of Dunnell, MN; two daughters, Cheryl Cherland and her husband, Roger of Lone Rock, IA, Ardis Gens and her husband, Gary of Vernon Center, MN; ten grandchildren, Randy (Lori) Bock, Shelley (Mike) Sake, Brad (Lisa) Bock, Mandy (Jesse) Lambrecht, Jennifer Cherland, John Cherland, Jill Cherland, Michelle (John) Kurzhal, Lori (John) Schutz, Brian Bock; seven great grandchildren; five step great grandchildren; one brother, Richard Bock, Richfield, MN and two sisters-in-law, Arlene Bock, Blooming Prairie, MN, Irene Malmanger, Madelia, MN and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Marguerite in 1993; two children in infancy; five brothers, Rudolph, Albert, Arnold, Reuben, and Edgar and two sisters, Amanda Reinke and Luella Swenson.
