Wilma Juanita Urban

Wilma Juanita Fancher was born on May 31, 1922 in Truman, MN to C. G. and Ida (Shore) Fancher. She was baptized in May of 1935 at the Church of Christ in Truman by Rev. Roy Ford and confirmed on April 18, 1948 at Zion Lutheran Church in Lewisville, MN by Rev. H. W. Degner. Wilma was raised and educated in Truman and graduated from Truman High School. She attended Mankato State Teacher's College in Mankato. Wilma spent two years teaching in country schools and three years teaching at Lewisville Grade School. Wilma was united in marriage to Bernhard Urban on June 15, 1947 in Truman. They made their home in Lewisville where they raised their five children. Wilma worked for many years as a reporter for the Truman Tribune and the Lewisville Spotlight. She spent twenty years as a 4-H leader. Wilma was a member of Zion Lutheran Church in Lewisville where she spent many years teaching Sunday School, Vacation Bible School and serving on the Christian Women's League, Ladies Aid and LWML. She was a past president and member of the Lewisville Legion Auxiliary and the Lutheran Retirement Home Auxiliary. She served on the Truman School Board, the ARC Board and the Crippled Children's Hospital and School. She was a member of the Lewisville Kitchen Band, playing the washtub drum, and a member of the Ding Dong Darlings. Wilma enjoyed visiting with friends and family, attending church functions and going to grandchildren's sporting events. Mrs. Urban died on Monday, September 15, 2008 at Lakeview Methodist Heath Care Center, Fairmont, MN. Wilma is survived by her children, Kathryn (James) Skelton, Evanston, ILL, Kenneth (Lynda) Urban, Truman, MN, Joyce (Baltazar) Aguilar, Lewisville, MN, James (Friend Debbie) Urban, Mankato, MN, Jeffrey (Bonnie) Urban, Menominee, WI; twelve grandchildren, Nichole Jacobson, Michelle (Ermias) Asfaw, Shane Jacobson, Laura Skelton, Danielle Urban, Jessica Urban, Mackenzie Urban, Marla Varela, Josh Varela, Dmitri JoslinUrban, Jacob Urban, David Urban and honorary grandson, Jose Garibay; great grandson, Zachary Asfaw; brother, Herman Fancher, Bloomington; sisters-in-law, Luella Doering, Mankato, Gladys Belgard, Verona Wilde, both of Truman, and Velma Fancher, Minneapolis; many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; five sisters, Verna Fancher, Ruby Fancher, Eulalia Lane, Ruth Mandrey and Thelma Barnes and two brothers, Homer Fancher and Edward Fancher. Memorial contributions may be given to Zion Lutheran Church Vacation Bible School.
