Helen E. Wilkening was born on August 26, 1911 in Truman, MN to Ernest and Augusta (Kleiss) Wilkening. She attended grade school in Westford Township. She was married to Diehl Pickett on April 15, 1933. He died in 1938 in an accident at the Truman Creamery. After her husband's death she lived on the farm with her parents and son Diehl, Jr. and worked as a dental assistant for Truman's local dentist. In 1953 Helen moved to Denver to be close to her son and daughter-in-law. She worked for the Children's Hospital in Denver until she retired and moved back to Truman in 1989. In Denver, she loved working in her garden and had beautiful flowers enjoyed by all. Helen loved to bake and was active in senior groups and her church in Denver. In Truman, she resided at the Lutheran Manor until moving into the retirement home. Mrs. Pickett died on Saturday, July 19, 2008 at Truman Senior Living.
Helen is survived by one son, Diehl, Jr. and his wife Marlys of Gwinn, MI; four grandchildren, Dawn (Mark) Washatka, Appleton, WI, Kathryn (James) Paris, Bethel, MN, James (Letty) Pickett, Colorado Springs, CO, Ronald (Katharine) Pickett, Appleton, WI; great grandchildren, Graham and Brooke Washatka, Justin and Terell Paris, Amanda Harbeck and Melanie Allen, Amber, Ashley and Arianna Pickett. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Diehl; brother, Richard Wilkening; half brothers, Verne and Aaron Wilkening.
In lieu of flowers memorial are preferred to Truman Senior Living.
