John Robert Niss

John Robert Niss was born on September 25, 1926 in Frasier Township, Martin County, MN. At the age of 1 he moved with his parents to the family farm which had been homesteaded by his grandparents. He continued to farm and reside on the farm until moving into Truman Senior Living in Truman in May of 2004. Jack spent two years in the US Army in England in the 1950's and returned home to continue farming. On September 3, 1960, Jack married Audrey Chaffee in Fairmont, MN. He was a member of the Granada Congregational Church. Jack died on Monday morning, June 9, 2008 at Truman Senior Living in Truman. Jack is survived by two sisters, Elda Sorum of Truman and Erma Rosen of Fairmont; one niece, Beverly Wharton of Rosemount, MN; three nephews, Roger Sorum of Georgia, Tom Rosen of Fairmont and Richard Rosen of Austin, TX. He was preceded in death by parents; his wife, Audrey; one infant brother and one sister, Gladys Smith. Memorial contributions may be given to St. John's United Church of Christ in Fairmont or to the charity of the donor's choice.
