Lewis Chester Clay was born on March 22, 1916 in Nashville Center, Martin County, MN to Chester and Beatrice (Lewis) Clay. He lived his entire life in Nashville Township. He learned to farm with his father. He was the only son and had five sisters: Bernice, Ruth, Ethel, Helen and Marian.
Lewis attended country school and graduated from Winnebago High School. On June 9, 1940 he married Violet Teske of Truman. Together they attended Brainerd Baptist Church and Calvary Baptist Church of Granada.
Lewis was a corn and soybean farmer and raised hogs, sheep, horses and milk cows. Mr. Clay died on Wednesday, April 30, 2008 at Truman Senior Living at the age of 92.
Celebrating his life will be his son, Ronald and his wife Marcia of Truman; grandsons, Christopher and his wife Kristi of Lino Lakes, Brian and his wife Jeanna of Truman and Aaron of Mankato and great grandson Ezrah of Truman. Also surviving is his sister Ruth Morrison of Manning, OR; brothers-in-law, Carrol Teske and his wife Yvonne of Rochester, Doyle Greeley and his wife Carol of Loveland CO and many nieces and nephews. Lewis was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Violet (2003); four sisters, Bernice Williams, Ethel Fowler, Helen Greeley, Marian Saxon and their husbands and in-laws; Paul Morrison, Arnold Teske, Reuben Teske, Edgar Teske, Clarence "Tiny? Teske, and Esther Teiken and their spouses.
