Carol D. Selnes

Carol Dean Selnes was born on October 13, 1934 in Aberdeen, SD to Jack and Jennie Mae Deady Selnes. He attended school at Faulkton, SD graduating in 1952. He then attended South Dakota State in Brookings. Carol served in the US Army in Korea from 1955-1957. He was employed by his father in the well drilling business. On June 12, 1960 Carol was united in marriage to Connie Stewart in Morristown, SD. In 1974 Carol was recruited and employed by Schwan's Ice Cream serving in South Dakota, North Carolina and moving to Truman in 1981. He truly loved his job for all the opportunities to connect with people and serve people. Carol retired in 2000 or more aptly, started his post career in public service. After retirement, he spent his time working at the Truman Public School with the elementary age children. He deeply loved them all. Carol was also honored to be employed by the Lenz Bus Service and to have the opportunity to help support people through work at Zaharia Family Funeral Home. Carol was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church and was a former member of the Truman Lions Club, Faulkton Odd Fellows and the Isaac Walton League in Pierre, SD. He loved to fish, hunt and spend time traveling with his wife and attending his grandsons' activities. God called Carol home on Monday morning, March 10, 2008 at his home in Truman for his work on earth is done. Carol is survived by his wife of 47 years, Connie Selnes, Truman, MN; one daughter, Wendy Selnes of Minneapolis; one son Monty Selnes and his wife Tammy of Truman, MN; two grandsons, Brady and Jordan Selnes; one brother, Marvin Selnes and his wife Donna, Sioux Falls; mother-in-law, Grace Stewart, Truman; one niece, Pamela Selnes, WA and one nephew, Robert Selnes, CO; and many cousins and extended family members in Norway. Carol was preceded in death by his parents; one infant daughter; and his father-in-law. Carol loved children and requested that toys and stuffed animals be given in lieu of flowers for his service. The toys and stuffed animals will be given to needy children through the Salvation Army and the Truman Fire, Ambulance and Police Department.
