Elta Hildegard, daughter of Edward and Louise (Marlow) Jahnz, was born May 8, 1917 in Antrim Township, Watonwan County, Minnesota. She was baptized on May 20, 1917 by Pastor Carl Messerli at Trinity Lutheran Church ? Fieldon, and was confirmed on March 29, 1931 by Pastor L. J. Lemke at Trinity Lutheran Church - Fieldon of Ceresco Township, Blue Earth County, rural Madelia, MN. She grew up in Antrim Township were she attended parochial and public schools. On October 6, 1940 Elta Jahnz and Elmer G. Karau were united in marriage at Trinity Lutheran Church - Fieldon. Following their marriage they made their home and farmed in Antrim Township. In 1974 they moved to Lewisville, MN. Mr. Karau died May 11, 1987. Elta continued to make her home in Lewisville. She was an active member in the Legion Auxiliary and at the death of her son, Ronald, became a Gold Star Mother. She also belonged to study club, home extension, Madelia Hospital Auxiliary, and she played in the Lewisville Kitchen Band. For 20 years, she was an adult leader with the local 4-H club. At the time of her death she was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church of Antrim and the Ladies Aid. Mrs. Karau died November 9, 2007 at Truman Senior Living, Truman, MN.
Elta is survived by three children, Arlen and wife Sandi, Lake Crystal, MN, Janice and husband George Galema, Elko, MN, Donna Marie and husband Ron Murphy, Omaha, NE; two sisters, Lillian Bode, Courtland, MN, Arlys Black, Clear Lake, IA, Mabel and husband Alvin Meyer of Rosemount, MN; two sisters-in-law, Mary Jahnz, Amboy, MN, Viola Jahnz, Farmington, MN; 9 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Elmer; son, Ronald; sister, Elvera Block-Moeller; brothers Alvin, Walt, and Lester; and daughter-in-law, Mickey Karau.
