Elmer August Lehr

May 26, 1918 — September 9, 2007

Elmer August Lehr was born on May 26, 1918 at Burnstad, ND to August and Pauline Reich Lehr. He was baptized on August 4, 1918. On March 25, 1934 Elmer was confirmed at the Lutheran Church in Wishek, ND. He attended country school. Elmer worked with the Civilian Conservation Corp. at Remer, MN from 1937-38. He joined the US Army in 1942 and was honorably discharged on Nov. 11, 1945. He served with the 3rd Army, 344th Ordnance Company in England, France and Germany. On November 10, 1946, Elmer was married to Mary Esther Schnabel in Burnstad, ND. They lived in Napoleon, ND where Elmer worked for Logan Implement Company for 14 years. In September of 1961, Elmer and Mary moved to Truman, MN. Elmer worked for the Truman Farmer's Elevator Co. for 20 years as a John Deere mechanic, retiring in 1981. He had his own hobby shop for 18 years. Elmer was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Truman, Oles-Reader-Bosshart American Legion Post 115 in Truman and the Martin County Veteran's of Foreign Wars Post 1222 in Fairmont. Elmer liked fixing things and making old things work. He enjoyed snowmobiling, fishing, hunting, playing cards and gardening. Elmer died on Sunday morning, September 9, 2007 at Truman Senior Living. Elmer is survived by his wife of 60 years, Mary of Truman; two sons and daughters-in-law, Ronald and Paulette Lehr of Northrop, MN, Rodger and Debbie Lehr of Litchfield, MN; two daughters and one son-in-law, Roxanne Lehr of Fairmont, Paulette and Kevin Lutterman of Truman; seven grandchildren; six great grandchildren; four brothers and sisters-in-law, Laurence and LaVerne Lehr, Wishek, ND, Marvin and Frances Lehr, Ashley, ND, LeRoy and Veronica Lehr, New York City, NY, EuGene Lehr, Bismarck, ND; two sisters and one brother-in-law, Hilda and Delmer Gallagher, Bismarck, ND and Vera Shelton, Missoula, MT; one sister-in-law, Edith Lehr, Wishek, ND and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother Ivan and one sister Viola Schweitz. Memorial contributions may be given to Fairmont Community Hospital Foundation-Hospice, 800 Medical Center Dr., Fairmont, MN 56031.
