Alvin H. Luhmann was born on January 31, 1924 in Rutland Township, Martin County, MN to Albert and Ella Kaeding Luhmann. He was baptized and confirmed at St. James Lutheran Church, East Rutland Township. He attended St. James Lutheran Parochial School and School Dist. 31. Alvin graduated from the Minnesota School of Agriculture in St. Paul in March of 1943. On April 21, 1945 Alvin married Fern Helen Rose. They moved to their present farm in 1946. Alvin and Fern moved in to Truman in 2007. Alvin was a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Truman where he served on the church board, he served on the St. James Lutheran school board and he was a clerk for Westford Township. Alvin loved all sports, spending winters in Hawaii and especially time with family.
Mr. Luhmann died at his home in Truman on Thursday, June 21, 2007.
Alvin is survived by his wife of 62 years, Fern of Truman; one daughter and son-in-law, Vivian and Larry Salstrom of Truman; one son and daughter-in-law, Dwight and Patty of Eagan, MN; one granddaughter, Connie Sugg and her husband Dave of Forest Lake, MN; one great grandson, Noah Sugg of Forest Lake, MN; 2 brothers, Clarence Luhmann and his wife Winnefred of East Chain, MN, and Carl Luhmann and his wife Phyllis; one sister, Arleen Heidenreich and her husband Virgil of Northville, SD; one sister-in-law, Elvera Hartmann of Fairmont and numerous nieces and nephews. Alvin was preceded in death by his parents, one brother, one sister, two brothers-in-law and one sister-in-law.
Memorial contributions may be given to Martin Luther High School or to Hospice.
