Frieda Anna Maria Alvina Niemeier, daughter of August & Caroline (Heckman) Niemeier, was born September 28, 1911 at South Branch, MN. She was baptized by Reverend F. Sell, attended parochial School in South Branch, and was confirmed by Reverend H.C. Hinz on April 15, 1925. When her folks retired to St. James in 1926, Frieda continued her schooling at St. James High School. Following her graduation, she worked for several years in the Boston Hotel and Hervin Holte Grocery Store in St. James. During the summer of 1929, she went to stay with her brother, who was ill, in Colorado Springs. While there, she worked in a park pavilion and did a lot of sightseeing and hiking in the area. Frieda enjoyed traveling and meeting people.
She gave many volunteer hours making world relief quilts, helping folks in the nursing home, and was involved in a variety of church activities. She also enjoyed playing Canasta, 500, and, in early years, Pinochle and Buck Euchre. Her garden was always important to her and she would take pleasure in producing an abundance of food for the dinner table.
On December 2, 1937, Frieda married Reinhold Sieg from South Branch. Reverend E. C. Birkholtz was the pastor. She lived on the home place until December 1, 1996 when she moved to an apartment in The Manor at Truman. Reinhold had entered the Truman Retirement Home on October 9, 1996; he died on January 13, 1997.
