Marvin Clement Suhr

Marvin Clement Suhr was born October 10, 1943, son of Clem and Doris (Gauthier) Suhr in Two Rivers, Wisc. He graduated from Washington High School, Two Rivers, in 1961, and graduated from the University of Wisconsin - Stevens Point in 1968 with a Bachelors of Science degree in soil conservation. On June 17, 1967, he married Joan Estelle Newby at St. Josephs Catholic Church, Stevens Point, Wisc. He served with the U.S. Army in Vietnam from May 1969 to May 1970, and was stationed with the 1st Battalion, 82nd Division of Artillery. He received several awards, including an Army Commendation Medal "For meritorious service in connection with military operations against a hostile force.? Marvin worked with the U.S. Soil Conservation Service in Wausau, Portage and Manitowoc counties in Wisconsin before relocating his family to Wyoming in 1976. He continued to work for the Soil Conservation Service in Carbon and Natrona counties in Wyoming before retiring in 1997. He and Joan relocated to Truman, Minn. in 2004. Before succumbing to Alzheimer's, Marvin enjoyed watching and participating in many sports, including baseball, football, fishing, and hunting. He also enjoyed gardening, photography, classic cars and camping. He was an excellent handyman who undertook numerous home projects including his own home additions. Marvin died Sunday, April 22, 2007, at his home in Truman from complications after a decade-long struggle with Alzheimer's Disease. He is survived by his wife, Joan, of Truman; daughter, Jennifer Brookens and her husband Dan, of Fairmont, Minn.; mother, Doris Suhr, of Two Rivers; sisters, Judi Schroeder, of West Bend Wisc., and Cyndi Skidmore and her husband Bryan, of Two Rivers; granddaughter, Kaycie, of Fairmont; many nieces, nephews and friends. He was preceded in death by his father. Memorials can be sent to the National Alzheimer's Foundation.
