Services for Harlan L. Jones, 73, of Truman, Minnesota will be 10:00 a.m. Saturday, May 7, 2005 at the Community Baptist Church in Truman with the Rev. Penny Ritter officiating. Inurnment will be at a later date at Ridgelawn Memorial Park, Truman, MN. Mr. Jones died Tuesday, May 03, 2005 at his home in Truman. Mr. Jones has been cremated and visitation with the family will be Friday evening, May 6, 2005, from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Zaharia Family Funeral and Cremation Service in Truman. Harlan L. Jones was born September 25, 1931 in Judson Township, Blue Earth County, Minnesota to Alvin and Loris (Butler) Jones. He attended Truman Public School. On March 24, 1950 he married Patricia Krause in Minneapolis, Minnesota. Following their marriage Harlan worked for his father in his trucking business and then worked for the Municipal Light and Power Plant for the City of Truman. He started Jones Fire and Equipment which he operated for 15 years. Harlan later went on the road coast to coast as an owner/operator for "Big H? Trucking. Harlan was active in the Truman Fire Department for 25 years from August of 1955 through January of 1981 and served 12 years from 1967 ? 1979 as the Fire Chief. He was instrumental in getting Truman their first ambulance in 1969, along with his friend, Dave Jennings. He worked as a PRIM (Professional Rescue Instructor of Minnesota) and in project HASTE (Helicopter Ambulance Service to Emergencies) when he was involved with the Fire Department. He also helped build a new fire station. He was a member of the Community Baptist Church in Truman and served on the Truman Park Board for 15 years. Harlan is survived by his wife, Pat Jones of Truman, MN; two daughters, Debbie Dubie and husband George of Willmar, MN and Lynette Chipman and husband Jim of Fairmont, MN; two sons, Scott Jones and wife Darcy of Fairmont, MN and Philip Jones and wife Vikki of Cold Spring, MN; eleven grandchildren, Jamie, Heather, Amy, John, Ann, Beth, Tyler, Hayley, Chelsey, Sophia, Angela; eight great-grandchildren; three sisters, Allene Clow of Truman, MN, Elaine Johnson and husband Joe of Swea City, IA, Anita Libby and husband, Keith of Plaistow, NH; five brothers, Larry Jones of Truman, MN, Roger Jones and wife Jo of Colorado Springs, CO, Curtis Jones and wife Pat of Truman, MN, Ernie Jones and wife Barb of Truman and Tim Jones of Dubuque, IA; many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother and two sisters.
