Funeral services for Bernyce Leonard will be held Saturday, November 20, 2004 at 2:00 pm at the Community Baptist Church of Truman. Interment will take place at Ridgelawn Memorial Park, rural Truman. Mrs. Leonard died Thursday, November 18, 2004 at Fairmont Medical Center ? Mayo Health Systems. Visitation will be held Friday, November 19, from 5-7pm at Olson-Zaharia Funeral Home, Truman, and one hour prior to services at the church. Bernyce Campbell was born February 7, 1913, in Truman, MN to Walter and Mae (Clow) Campbell. She attended schools in Spring Valley and Truman, MN, graduating from Truman High School in 1931. She attended Fairmont Normal School and graduated with a two-year teaching degree. On June 6, 1939, she married Wayne Leonard in the Baptist parsonage in Mason City, IA. She taught school in District 6 in Watonwan County, Districts 106, 64, and 122 in Martin County, and District 18 in Watonwan County. She attended Mankato State University, graduating with a Bachelor's Degree at age 58. She was Truman's first Learning Disability Specialist, a position she held 10 years prior to retiring in 1976 from the Truman Public School System. Bernyce was a member of Community Baptist Church, where she was a Sunday School teacher for adults and children, as well as a member of the Esther Davis Circle and American Baptist Women. Bernyce loved traveling in their motorhome, reading, taking correspondence courses, teaching, gardening, bird-watching, flowers, and her cats. Her true love was spending time with her family and keeping up on her grandchildren's and great-grandchildren's lives. Bernyce is survived by her husband, Wayne Leonard, Truman MN; two daughters and sons-in-law Nancy and Gil Harrison, St. James, MN, Suzanne and Hideo Kawasumi, Tokyo, Japan; two sons and daughters-in-law Dudley and Donna Leonard, Truman, MN, Larry and Marjorie Leonard of Waupaca, WI; one daughter-in-law, Lucille Leonard Middleton, Sioux Falls, SD; fourteen grandchildren; sixteen great-grandchildren; one half-sister, Lois Jean Fussell, Bartow, FL; one half-brother, Robert Campbell, Lakeland, FL; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; one son, Marlin "Dee? Leonard; three sisters, Leota Bushert, Violette Guy, and Fae Mischke.
