George A. (Art) Fowler

Funeral services for George A. (Art) Fowler, 87, of Truman, Minnesota will be held at 10:00 a.m. Friday, June 11, 2004 at the Horicon Church of Christ, rural Truman with burial to follow in the church cemetery. Mr. Fowler died Tuesday, June 8, 2004 at the Fairmont Medical Center-Mayo Health System in Fairmont from complications of cancer.. Visitation will be Thursday, June 10, 2004 from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. at the Olson-Zaharia Funeral Home in Truman and one hour prior to the service on Friday at the church. George A. (Art) Fowler was born August 2, 1916 in Westford Township, Martin County, Minnesota to George H. and Emma (Schoeppach) Fowler. He attended school and graduated from Truman High School. Art joined the Army Air Corps five days prior to Pearl Harbor. He served for the duration of the war with nineteen months spent in the Aleutian Islands and attained the rank of Staff Sergeant. On December 12, 1945 Art was united in marriage to Ethel M. Clay. Art and Ethel made their home and farmed in Section 32 of Westford Township. Their marriage was blessed with two children. Ethel died in 1978. Art was a member of Horicon Church of Christ, a former member of the Truman School Board and former treasurer of the Northrop Co-op Creamery. Art is survived by his children, Jim (Evelyn) Fowler of Winsted, Minnesota and Mary Fowler of Truman, Minnesota. Beloved grandchildren were the focus of his retirement years: Sarah Fowler of Jordan, Minnesota, Wade Fowler of Minneapolis, Minnesota and Emma Jo Fowler of St. Bonifacius, Minnesota. He is also survived by two brothers, Richard Fowler of Trimont, Minnesota and Laurence (Eileen) Fowler of Truman, Minnesota; one sister, Mary Johnson of Estherville, Iowa; brothers-in-law, Lewis Clay of Truman, Minnesota and Doyle (Carol) Greeley of Colorado; sister-in-law, Ruth Morrison of Manning, Oregon; numerous nieces, nephews and extended family. Art was preceded in death by his parents; wife; brothers; Charles and Osmer; and sisters, Mildred Anderson, Esther Schleininger and Clarice Bloomquist.
