Graveside services for Richard L. Johnson, 75, of Fairmont, Minnesota, formerly of Beresford, South Dakota will be 11:00 a.m. Thursday, May 20, 2004, at the Beresford City Cemetery in Beresford, South Dakota. Mr. Johnson died Sunday, May 16, 2004 at the Fairmont Medical Center ? Mayo Heath System in Fairmont. Visitation will be 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Tuesday, May 18, 2004 at Olson-Zaharia Funeral Home in Fairmont and also Wednesday, May 19, 2004 from 7:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Wass Funeral Home in Beresford, South Dakota. Richard L. Johnson was born October 16, 1928 in Estherville, Iowa to parents, Therman and Bertha (Warriner) Johnson. He moved to Fairmont, Minnesota as a small child where he attended school. Richard graduated from Fairmont High School and then entered the United States Navy. He married Donna Lou Duncan on February 20, 1954 in Oceanside, California. After 20 years of Naval service Richard transferred to Fleet Reserve and the couple moved to Cedar Rapids, Iowa where he worked for Collins Radio Company. He was later employed at Sioux Valley Hospital in Sioux Falls, South Dakota and Brownsville Medical Center in Brownsville, Texas. Richard retired due to ill health and moved back to Alcester, South Dakota. Donna Lou died on February 1, 1993. Richard lived in Alcester and Fairmont, Minnesota until the present time. Survivors include his sisters: Jeanne Luedtke of Fairmont, Minnesota and Donna Kunz of Ruthven, Iowa; brother, Bill (Ruth) Johnson of Scottsdale, Arizona; special friend, Joan Paris of Fairmont, Minnesota; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law: Doug and Cheryl Johnson of Alcester, South Dakota, Lowell and Joanne Duncan of Alcester, South Dakota, Delores Havelka of Aurora, Colorado, DeWayne and Glenda Duncan of Viborg, South Dakota, Helen Johnson of Park Rapids, Minnesota, Reba Hunter-Johnson of Vista, California and many nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, two brothers and a sister in infancy.
