Funeral services for Edith V. Newman, 104, of Rochester, Minnesota, formerly of Fairmont, Minnesota will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, December 27, 2003, at Grace Lutheran Church Chapel in Fairmont with the Rev. Hollie Holt-Woehl officiating. Burial will be at Lakeside Cemetery in Fairmont. Mrs. Newman died Saturday, December 20, 2003, at Samaritan Bethany Heights in Rochester. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church. Olson-Zaharia Funeral Home of Fairmont arranged services for the family. Edith Virginia Nelson was born July 29, 1899, in Preston Lake Township, Buffalo Lake, Minnesota to Adolph William and Hilma Christina (Carlson) Nelson. She was baptized on August 13, 1899 and confirmed in 1912, in the Lutheran faith. She attended country school near Hector, Minnesota and graduated from high school. She married Frank R. Newman of Cloquet, Minnesota on May 30, 1925 in Buffalo Lake. They made their home in Buffalo Lake, Franklin, Carlton, Cloquet, Duluth, Osseo, Huntley, Fairmont, New Hope and Rochester, Minnesota. He died February 1, 1965. Edith was a bookkeeper and clerk for Eiselien's Store in Buffalo Lake, Minnesota, worked as a self-employed seamstress, worked at Kickernick, Inc. in Minneapolis, Minnesota and also worked in the first aid station at Railway Motors in Fairmont. She enjoyed sewing, cooking, crocheting and following the Minnesota Twins. Edith is survived by two sons, David Newman and his wife, Joyce of Rochester, Minnesota and James Newman and his wife, Nancy of Nisswa, Minnesota; eight grandchildren; eleven great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; daughter, Virginia Ringsred of Duluth, Minnesota; two grandsons; a great-grandson; two sisters and six brothers. Memorials are suggested to Samaritan Bethany Heights or Grace Lutheran Church.
