Florence Clara Wels was born in Fairmont, MN to August and Emily (Fritch) Nelson on July 5, 1917. She attended country school near Fairmont. On March 7, 1943 Florence was united in marriage to William Wels at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Fairmont. They lived in rural Lewisville until William’s death in 1992. Florence moved into the Southwest Apartments in Truman. In 2001 she moved into assisted living in Fairmont and into Lakeview Methodist Health Care Center in 2008. Florence was a member of Zion Lutheran Church in Lewisville and was active in the Ladies Aid. Florence enjoyed reading and crocheting. Florence died on Wednesday, June 9, 2010 at the Fairmont Medical Center.

Florence is survived by five children, Kathryn Olsen and her husband David of Oak Ridge, TN, Laura O’Connor and her husband Tim of White Bear Lake, MN, Paul Wels of Northrop, MN, Charles Wels and his wife Gloria of Helena, MT, Leo Wels and his wife Debbie of Lewisville, MN; 11 grandchildren; 9 great grandchildren; one brother, Raymond Nelson and his wife Irma of West Union, IL. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; 2 brothers, Dennis and Clayton.
