Mervin Ernest Wegner was born on June 7, 1915 in Antrim Township, Watonwan County to Herman and Anna (Pfeil) Wegner. He was baptized at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church on June 29, 1915 and confirmed on March 24, 1929. He attended St. Paul’s Lutheran Parochial School and attended Truman Public School. On February 10, 1938 Mervin was united in marriage to Hildegard Karau at Trinity Lutheran Church-Fieldon Township. They farmed their entire lives in the Amboy, Truman and Lewisville areas. Mervin raised turkeys for many years. Hildegard died in 1988. Mervin retired in 2007. Mervin was a member of Zion Lutheran Church where he sang in the choir. Mervin enjoyed travelling and farming. He loved his Church, he loved to visit with people and spending time with his family and always had a story to tell. Mervin died on Monday, January 11, 2010 at Immanuel-St. Joseph Hospital in Mankato.

Mervin is survived by his six children, Merlin Wegner and his wife Gerry of Lewisville, Dallas Wegner and his wife Arlene of Truman, Myrna Gag and her husband Marvin of North Mankato, Sandra Hinderschied and her husband Robert of Brandon, MN, Vicki Hawkes and her husband Thomas of Lewisville, Richard Wegner and his wife Jacque of Mankato; eleven grandchildren, Wendy, Becky, Kathy, Heidi, Timothy, Kristine, Sarah, Jonathan, Christopher, Nathaniel, Tara; thirteen great grandchildren; one great, great granddaughter; one sister, Pearlette Poppe and her husband Eldon of Fairmont, MN; one brother, Bill Wegner and his wife Mickey of Arlington Heights, IL; one sister-in-law, Mildred Wegner of Butterfield, MN; a special friend, Leona Benck of Lewisville and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife Hildegard; one son in infancy, Donald; three sisters, Alvina Krenz, Elfrieda Wegner in infancy, Irene Baarts; five brothers, Erick, Herbert, Walter, Elvin and Ellsworth.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be given to Zion Lutheran Church in Lewisville for radio programs and the lift fund.
