Walter Harold Benoy was born on April 9, 1919 in Mentor, MN to Henry and Estella (Berg) Benoy. He attended school and graduated from Mentor High School. Walter served his country in the Army National Guard and was called up to the US Army. He served in the South Pacific. On September 30, 1946 Walter was united in marriage to Violet Bensen in Crookston, MN. They made their home in Erskine, MN. Walter was employed by the Minnesota Dept. of Transportation and they moved to Winnebago, MN. They moved to Mankato, MN until his retirement. In 1981, Walter and Violet moved to Truman. In 1986 they moved to Dixon, IL to take care of their son, Bruce. After his death, they moved back to Truman in 1989. Walter was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Truman. Walter loved his woodworking, scrapbooking, gardening, travelling, fishing, and loved to hunt in his younger days. He spent time researching geneology and learning how to quilt. Walter treasured his time spent with family and especially his grandchildren and great grandchildren. Walter died on Wednesday, September 30, 2009 at his home in Truman.

Walter is survived by his wife of 63 years, Violet, Truman, MN; one son, Sheldon Benoy and his wife Shelley, Truman, MN; one daughter-in-law, Wanda Benoy, Dixon, IL; six grandchildren, Cassandra Meyen, Stacia Cain, Eric Jacobson, Derek Landon, Monica Stromberg, Ashley Landon; five great grandchildren, Brooklyn Meyer, Madilyn Stromberg, Adara Meyen, Anton Meyen, Callia Meyen and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; one son, Bruce; his twin brother, Wallace; brothers, Donald and Jim; two sisters, Eleanor and Evelyn.

Memorial contributions may be given to Hospice of Martin County or to Trinity Lutheran Church in Truman.
